Today, I left the house at half past 3 for a little walk in the neighborhood, before it would get too cold. The cars were slipsliding along slowly and the birds seemed very quiet too. Everything did look beautiful though. Today, I've also been making good progress with my crocheting, it's coming along nicely.

At this time of the year we like to keep ourselves busy (and amused) with preparing for various Sinterklaas festivities. Yesterday my Youngest Daughter made her Sinterklaas 'surprise' for the Sinterklaas celebration at school. And I am crocheting away on some Sinterklaas presents that - for obvious reasons - I won't go into detail about here. One of the things I need to do is crochet some long chains and doing that always reminds me of my late aunt Annie. She is the one who taught me how to crochet a chain when I was a young girl and I remember that very well. My aunt Annie was quite an adventurous woman. She lived in Indonesia for a long time, and one of the things she did there was work as a teacher for the children of the sultan of Jogjakarta (I don't know if it was this one?, or this one?, or maybe this one?). The sultan was a muslim and had many wives and many many children. My aunt Annie also grew orchids. Back in the Netherlands, she was never seen without her knitting bag. So I'm sure you can understand why I enjoy thinking back of my aunt Annie whenever I am crocheting a chain!
